Common Questions

What ages do you teach?

We specialize in structured chess programs for children and teens aged 6 to 17, tailored to their cognitive development.

Previous experience needed?

None at all! We have specialized beginner foundations classes for kids who have never touched a chess piece before. Best of all, our lessons are fun, engaging and very interactive.

How do online and in-person classes differ?

Canada has those bad-weather days; so in-Person classes are broadcast through zoom, so students can come in-person or join online. Both follow our core curriculum and use our proprietary chess platform. In-person chess classes emphasize social engagement, while Online chess classes cut the travel. But whether you're in in-person or online both are highly engaging.

How long until we see progress?

Most parents notice improved focus and strategic thinking within the first semester as children master foundational recall study techniques that'll improve their ability to remember the chess patterns and tactical skills.

How do I choose the right level?

We highly recommend booking our free assessment to precisely determine your child's current skill level and academic goals.

What is your fee structure?

We have two fee structures: Per Semester or Monthly.

Option 1: Per Semester Payment takes the number of semester classes multiplied by $25.00 plus $50 per Semester Platform and Material fee.

Option 2: Per Month Payment is $120.00/month. Monthly membership is $120/month (includes taxes).. It's a recurring monthly payment and begins on the 1st. day of registration and on the same day each month thereafter unless the membership is cancelled.

Both payment types provide students both four monthly classes plus four Sunday in-person practice sessions (Sundays 11:30am to 1pm) barring satuatory holidays do not interfere in the schedualed classes.

We recommend parents pay for the semester which provides parents a discount.

What if we miss a class?  Refunds / Credits?

Students will receive make-up classes in the event of a cancelled class. Smart Kids Chess reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrolment. If this occurs, a full refund will be processed.

Parents may cancel their membership at any time without any fees or penalties.
